So where are we going? Well for some insane reason we're riding close to 8,200km, just under half of that on dirt.
We are leaving from Perth and heading NE to Wiluna before starting to ride the Gunbarrel Highway, 1400km offroad through to Yulara in the Northern Territory. From there we head to Alice Springs via the Mereene Loop for a short break to service the bikes.
From there we head north on the Bitumen for a few days stopping at the Daley Waters pub for "refreshment" before turning off on the Buchanan Highway. This road looks great. 300km offroad all the way through to Timber Creek.
From there we pull into Kunanurra to change the tyres out and attend the Kunanurra Cup (what poor timing!) before hitting the Gibb River Road. This part will be horrible. All off road, surrounded by gorges, staying at El Questro, bah!
Once were done it's back onto the bitumen for the long haul home. We're taking our time here stopping regularly down the coast.
All in all we're taking 28 odd days to finish the ride. Mad you say! Probably but we have factored in some contingency. There will be dramas. Rod will try killing me in my sleep but hey, that's half the fun.
MLCOAB #1: So YOU think you've got a crisis?! Join Mike and Rod on their 8,200km odyssey through some of Western Australia’s and the Northern Territory's most remote and beautiful places. MLCOAB #2: Mike needs a road trip, a very long road trip. This time it's 99% bitumen from Maroochydore to Perth
Who, Why and When
Hello and welcome to our mid life crisis. We are two thirty something blokes with a love of motorcycles and wide open spaces. This blog not only follows our four week trip into the unknown but also contains information and links on how we set up our bikes for the trip. Hopefully our story not only inspires you to get out of your comfort zone and do something mad and liberating but also gives you a bit of a laugh.
Cheers Mike and Rod
